====== M ====== ===== Bernard Lee ===== IMDb Biography **__Films__**: Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker. > **M**: You were supposed to observe Mr. Goldfinger, not borrow his girlfriend! M is the head MI6 and the boss figure of James Bond. He is tough and resourceful, often looking negatively at the cavalier and sometimes as he sees it, unprofessional behavior of James Bond. He is always quick to let Bond know how he wants matters conducted and doesn’t hesitate to find a replacement if he doesn’t believe James Bond is up to the job. > **M**: Do you really think she’s worth going after? Based on the locations of many of the missions of James Bond, he has had his base in numerous places including a shipwreck, a submarine and other locations. During Bond’s mission in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, he graciously thanks Miss Moneypenny for her intervention when she prevents James Bond from resigning from the service. > **M**: What would I do without you Miss Moneypenny? Thank you. M is almost always seen at headquarters or on a set up base in the field, but we do see the Admiral in his estate working on his butterfly collection, when Bond visits him. > **M**: Jealous tailors, outrages chefs, the list is endless! > **M**: Well tell him to pull out. Immediately. ===== Robert Brown ===== IMDb Biography **__Films__**: Octopussy, A View To A Kill, The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill > **M**: Effective immediately, your licence to kill is revoked. Taking over in Octopussy, this new M, while still the hard-edged boss of Bond, allows himself to smile more often at some of Bond’s tactics. In Licence to Kill however, he revokes Bond’s licence and the agent goes rogue. During the end of the mission, Felix informs Bond that he may have his job back at MI6. > **M**: He follows orders, not instincts. > **M**: We’re not a country club, 007! ===== Edward Fox ===== IMDb Biography **__Film__**: Never Say Never Again M is the head MI6 and the boss figure of James Bond. > **M**: Oh you’ll do more than that! This M seems to always be annoyed with James Bond. He looks at his training at being a failure. Bond seems to think that this new M doesn’t have any use for the 00-section. M sends him to Shrublands and then later tries to get him to return at the end of the mission. ===== Judi Dench ===== IMDb Biography **__Films__**: GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is not Enough and Die Another Day > **M**: Good, because I think you’re a sexist, misogynist dinosaur, a relic of the Cold war, whose boyish charms wasted on me, obviously appealed to that young woman I sent out to evaluate you. The new M, a woman, does not take lightly to the attitude of James Bond on their first mission together. Tough and not one to tolerate insubordination, she quickly lets Bond know what she wants done and how to do it. She’s very strict, but knows well of the personality of James Bond. > **M**: Perhaps, but the advantage is that I don’t have to think with them all the time. The two exchange remarks in GoldenEye, leading M to admonish Bond for his ideals and send him on the mission to work professionally, not personally. In The World is not Enough, she is devastated when she understands the true goals of Elektra King and is rescued by James Bond in the field. Later on in Die Another Day, she appears to be very distressed with Bond as she had to free Zao in order to grant his release from prison. > **M**: Just get me out there! > **M**: Your freedom came at too high a price.
