Sent to investigate the disappearance of three British Agents, James Bond goes head to head with Harlem crime boss Mr Big, and an internatioanl diplomat Kananga. But it may not just be Mr Big's heavies that pose the biggest threat to Bond, but a little bit voodoo and a tarot deck.
Miss Caruso: Such a delicate touch.
James Bond: Sheer magnetism, darling.
James Bond must figure out the reason for the deaths of three fellow agents which have occurred in New York, New Orleans, and San Monique, an island in the Carribean. He is soon a pawn in the pipeline of power and control that Mr. Big has, a gangster supposedly having ties to Dr. Kananga, another man associated with San Monique.
Throughout, James Bond meets up with the beautiful and mysterious Solitaire, a virgin Tarot reader, whose powers are service to the dangerous Mr. Big and Dr. Kananga. It is when a ‘Lovers’ card signalling what is to come in the future between Bond and herself appears that the tight-knit plan is turned upside-down.
Bond and Solitaire eventually act together in the field later on as Bond encounters the dangerous one-armed Tee Hee as well as the treacherous Rosie Carver. Not to mention the chief of the dead, Baron Samedi. Bond later finds out that Dr. Kananga and Mr. Big are one and the same, and a profitable heroin scheme is behind it all.
With help from CIA agent Felix Leiter, and dodging the roadblock of Sheriff J.W. Pepper, Bond pursues Kananga to the end on San Monique where a vicious fight eventually begins between the two men, with only one survivor...
M: I’m sure the over-burdened British taxpayer would be fascinated to know how its Special Ordinances section disperses its funds. In future, Commander, let me suggest a perfectly adequate watchmaker just down the street.
M: Good God.
James Bond: You see, sir. By pulling out this button, it turns the watch into a hyper-intensified magnetic field. Powerful enough to even deflect the path of a bullet, at long range, or so Q claims.
M: I feel very tempted to test that theory right now.
Bond and Solitaire finally get to breathe a sigh of relief on a train ride back, but not before one more encounter with Tee Hee.
