Poster tagline: James Bond’s all time high!

When 009 turns up dead in East Berlin, clutching a precious Faberge egg in his hand and inexplicably dressed in a clown suit, James Bond OO7 is called into action. The egg is the key, and Bond quickly smokes out an interested buyer: Kamal Khan, a wealthy exiled Afghan prince with a taste for sadistic torture. After observing Kamal and his lovely lady companion, Magda, at a London auction house, Bond is dispatched to India, where a game of backgammon uncovers Kamal’s deadly intent: “Kill Bond!” But Bond’s quick instincts and orders from Kamal’s boss – a mysterious woman in the shadows known only as Octopussy – temporally saves OO7 from his fate.

Magda: That’s my little Octopussy.

After spending a night with Kamal’s the beautiful Magda, Bond is kidnapped and held prisoner in Kamal’s Monsoon Palace. There, Bond witnesses a mysterious midnight transaction between Kamal and a rogue Russian general named Orlov. There’s more going on than even Octopussy may know. After a harrowing tiger hunt – with James Bond standing in for “the tiger” – OO7 is able to make contact with the mysterious Octopussy herself. Turns out Bond had given her criminal father a dignified exit many years ago, and as a consequence, Bond has gained her respect and trust. After sharing a night in Octopussy’s octopus-shaped bed, Bond takes out three Kamal-sent assassins and fakes his own death.

Q: Double-oh-seven on an island populated exclusively by beautiful women? We won’t see him ‘til dawn.

It’s off to Berlin, where M sends Bond across Checkpoint Charlie and into the East. There, Bond infiltrates the Octopussy circus troupe and spies another deadly transaction – unknown to Octopussy, Kamal and Orlov are using her complex railroad smuggling pipeline to smuggle an atomic bomb into the West! Bond confronts Orlov, who reveals his plan: The “accidental” explosion will force the West to disarm and thus allow Russia to launch a massive first strike invasion. Even the Russians think Orlov is mad, but nothing can stop the bomb, which is now ticking away inside a prop cannon under the Octopussy circus bigtop.

It’s a wild race against time as Bond must evade Kamal’s knife-wielding assassins and the West German police to make it to ground zero. There, dressed as a clown, OO7 is able to deactivate the bomb with “OO” seconds to spare. But Kamal has escaped.

Kamal Khan: You have a nasty habit of surviving.

Back in India, Bond, Octopussy, Q, and Octopussy’s gymnastic team of beauties raid Kamal’s Monsoon Palace and defeat his minions in a gun-blazing climax on land and in the air. Bond and Octopussy then “convalesce” aboard her palatial barge rowed by two-dozen beautiful women. “Oh, James.”
