James Bond returns again to do battle against one of his most powerful adversaries yet: the eccentric [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Elliot Carver]]. The fate of the outcome holds the possibility of an all-out war occurring. > **Elliot Carver**: There's no news like bad news. From the streets of Saigon to the dark waters of the South China Sea, James Bond must quickly rush around to prevent a madman from creating a megalomanical scheme of deception and chaos. With the help of the ever-lethal [[films:characters:wai-lin|Wai Lin]], and the assistance of an old flame named [[films:characters:paris-carver|Paris]], Bond takes on the evil mastermind... James Bond is first seen on a mission where he destroys a terrorist "supermarket", while observed by [[films:characters:m|M]] and the MI6 staff through cameras. Later on two Chinise MIG's have overtaken a British ship, the Devonshire, claiming it is sailing in their protected waters, while the Devonshire crew see directly on their radar that they are in international waters. However, the real culprit is technical genius [[films:characters:henry-gupta|Henry Gupta]], who with his GPS encoder and satellites, is sending them slowly off course. A stealth ship, under the command of [[films:characters:stamper|Stamper]] secretly shows up on the scene, sinking the ship and destroying one of the MIG's, making it look like a Chinese attack. This is all apart of the evil plan of [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Elliot Carver]]. > **Admiral Roebuck**: With all due respect, M, I think you don't have the balls for this job.\\ > **M**: Perhaps. But the advantage is, I don't have to think with them all the time. Later on Bond is called in by [[films:characters:m|M]] and [[films:characters:moneypenny|Moneypenny]] to hear the briefing on the case. Bond and [[films:characters:m|M]] are skeptical that a newspaper (the first to cover the event) Tomorrow, owned by [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver]] could have gotten the story out so fast without actually having some sort of involvement in it. Bond is sent to Hamburg where he crashes a party thrown by [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver]], as [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver]] is quickly trying to become the emperor of the air in the entire world. Bond is attacked by [[films:characters:stamper|Stamper's]] men, but also meets up with [[films:characters:paris-carver|Paris]], an old flame, who is now [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver's]] wife. [[films:characters:paris-carver|Paris]] later meets Bond in his room and gives him information on how to break into the complex, and then spends the night with him. [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver]] finds out about this and has her tortured and killed by [[films:characters:dr-kaufman|Dr. Kaufmann]]. Bond steals the encoder, and makes a narrow escape from [[films:characters:dr-kaufman|Kaufmann]] as well as [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver's]] men thanks to [[films:characters:q|Q's]] gadgets. > **Dr. Kaufman**: This is very embarrassing. It seems there is a red box they need in your car, they can't get it open. They want me to get you to tell how to open it. I feel like an idiot, I don't know what to say. \\ > **Dr. Kaufman**: I am to torture you if you don't do it. \\ > **James Bond**: Oh, you have a doctorate in that too? \\ > **Dr. Kaufman**: No, no this is more like a hobby...but I'm very gifted. \\ > **James Bond**: Oh, I believe you. Bond then later meets up with [[films:characters:wai-lin|Wai Lin]] and the two team up to stop [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver]] on whatever he may be planning. They are caught after they have found the true location of the sunken Devonshire by [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver]] and taken to his Saigon station. They both escape and arm themselves while locating the possible spots where the stealth ship may be. They later find it, board it, and set charges to destroy the ship. > **Elliot Carver**: Let the mayhem begin. [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver's]] master plan to create an all out war between Britian and China has already been set into motion. [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver]] plans to then fire a missile into Beijing, leaving it ready for the takeover of [[films:characters:general-chang|General Chang]], and giving exclusive broadcasting rights to [[films:characters:elliot-carver|Carver]] there. > **Elliot Carver**: Don't you realize how absurd your position is? \\ > **James Bond**: No more absurd than starting a war for ratings.
